Main Street Laurens is one of only approximately 1,500 business improvement districts in the nation and one of only 3 in South Carolina.
Over the past five years, the downtown area has come alive with building renovations, new stores, and more visitors: 22 new businesses have opened, 5 businesses have expanded, 26 new jobs have been created, 12 buildings have undergone renovation, over $725,000 has been invested by the private sector, over $2.2 million has been invested by the public sector, and over 20,000 people participated in last year’s Squealin’ on the Square BBQ Festival.
